Where Memories Begin

Curriculum & Assessment

In our classrooms, we implement the Creative Curriculum by TeachingStrategies. We have two separate editions, Toddlers and Two’s and Preschool. In each edition, the children are exposed to a broad variety of topics and lessons each day. Both versions have a range of different ways to implement each activity for all levels of student performance. Each lesson is tailored directly to your child’s current levels and focuses on getting them to the next step!

Every few weeks, a new “study” is introduced in our Preschool curriculum. Each study exposes the children to a specific theme (roads, trees, clothes, etc.) Everyday, the children learn the basics (shapes, colors, numbers, letters) along with interesting information about each topic!

PATHS Curriculum

The PATHS® curriculum is a comprehensive program for promoting emotional and social competencies and reducing aggression and behavior problems in children while simultaneously enhancing the educational process in the classroom. .

The Preschool/Kindergarten level assists educators in early education to create an environment that helps young children 3 to 6 years of age to develop better self-control, self-esteem, emotional awareness, basic problem-solving skills, social skills, and friendships.

HEGGERTY PHONEMIC AWARENESS CURRICULUM

The Heggerty Phonemic Awareness Curriculum provides 35 weeks of daily lessons, focusing on eight phonemic awareness skills, along with two additional activities to develop letter and sound recognition, and language awareness.

What is Phonemic Awareness?

 Phonemic awareness is an understanding that spoken words are made up of individual sounds called phonemes. A phoneme is the smallest unit of sound we hear in a word.

 How does Phonemic Awareness help Reading and Literacy Development?

 It is essential for students to understand that words are made up of individual sounds, and they can blend, segment, and manipulate those sounds. If students can do this work through the air, we can transfer these skills to print, so they can read and spell more words!

Assessment

Grounded in 38 research-based objectives for development and learning, Teaching Strategies GOLD® supports effective teaching and assessment, while providing our teachers with more time to spend with the children in our program. Each day our teachers assess the students on different developmental objectives such as:

* Phonological Awareness

* Number Concepts and Operations

* Gross Motor and Fine Motor

* Establishing Positive Relationships with Peers and Regulating Emotions

* Language and Vocabulary

* Knowledge of Print

*...and so much more!

We use the information we gather from these assessments to plan our daily lessons, specifically written for the skills your child has guiding them to reaching the next level of their potential. Three times a year, we print out a detailed report to let you know how your child is progressing within our program and make a plan especially for them for the next checkpoint period.
